Insult - Interview

Interview w/Derek Insult
1. Hey Derek, how are you? How things are going in Insult?
I am good, very busy working on a new record. Insult is very busy; we have been doing some shows in the Boston area. They have been well attended and very very fun to play. Nate Linehan from Anal Cunt has been playing drums with us since the split 7" with Ruido in 1999 on KNOW records. Paulie from AC has been playing Bass also, the lineup is very tight and professional now which makes my job alot easier.
2. Give me a short biography about Insult.
Insult formed in 1992 as a 4 piece band ( I was only doing vocals then) we released a demo cassette called mindrot (300) copies, Next we released a live 7" "live at farview hospital for the criminally insane" in 1994 , Next we released a demo cassette " boxing at the special olympics in 1995. in 1996 we signed a licensing deal with KNOW records in California USA. We released " I wanna be a burn victim in 1997 on Know,Seth Putnam (AC) joined on Bass in 1998 and did about 50 shows or so with us. We released several comp tracks and a split with Ruido before taking a break in 2001. I reformed the band in 2007 with Derek vox/ guitar- Nate drums- and Paulie Bass. We are ready to release a new 12 song 7" in early 2010 as soon as we pick a label.
3. How many stuff have Insult?

1992 Demo cassette Mindrot,
1994 7" EP Live at Farview Hospital (decapitated rec)

1999 Split EP w/ Ruido ( know rec)
2000 Split Live CD with Anal Cunt (wicked sick rec)
Compilation tracks:
Hardcore true or false ( kangaroo rec)
Up the dosage (wonderdrug)
Nothing to believe in (know rec)
Thrash of the Titans LP (know rec)
What were we fighting for ? DK's Tribute (know rec)
Runt of the Litter Vol 2 ( fan attic)

4. You are listening some hardcore or grindcore band from Peru?
I am not familiar with any HC from Peru, send me some and Ill let you know what I think.
5. How you see the actual hc grind scene in your city/country?
The HC / Grind scene here is very good now. Back during the late 90's , there were not too many fastcore bands around here ( boston) to play with, we always ended up doing shows with anal cunt. The West coast was better, we played to much bigger crowds there. The HC scene is Boston is back in 2010, last week there was a big show here Jerry's Kids, Gang Green, DYS, and slapshot. Almost 1000 kids were there. 10 years ago Gang green played with Insult to about 25 people at a small club here in Boston. Things have improved a lot.
6. What influence have Insult?
Insult has its roots in the 1983 fast HC sound, we listen to VOID, YDI, Mob 47, Black Flag, Gang Green, Bad Brains, all the generic HC bands. I also really love the Ramones, as a matter of fact all the Insult songs when slowed down are very ramone like.

7. Tell me how were those old years of Insult? which bands had, what zines?
The early days of Insult were fun, we were young and had no obligations. The band was the main thing in our lives. We played a ton of shows , made alot of friends and some enemies.
We played mostly DIY venues, basements, rec centers , schools etc. We also played all the good clubs in Boston, my favorites were the Ratskellar, and TT the bears place (cambridge).
Insult had been reviewed or interviewd in:MRR, Flipside, Terrorizor,Slug and Lettuce, suburban voice, a bunch more no one ever heard of...
Derek was the original guitarist for the mighty Gonkulator (pope john paul the 13th) and I am on the first demo as well as several 7" EPs. Thats all besides Insult
Paulie is former Anal Cunt guitarist and song writer, he plays in Nasty Disater from CT, Full Blown A.I.D.S, and he played bass in PTL Klub.
Nate was the Anal Cunt Drummer for 11 years, he has also a member of Fistula, Milos syndicate, and other shit.
8. Now what future plans Insult?
We have 17 new tracks recorded 6 of them are being released as a split 7" EP on Patac Records Boston with a Boston Band Rampant Decay. The other 11 are being released as an Insult EP 7".
We have a west coast tour feb 2011 and a US tour with Anal Cunt in April 2011.
9. Derek, thanks for your answers, your last words.

1.Hello Avi,how are you? all good in Magrudergrind?
Yea, everything is great. Steady drinking and grinding.
2.Tell me how Magrudergrind formed.
Three delinquent trouble makers decided to play noise in the form of grindcore. rehearsals consisting of getting drunk and high as fuck and skipping class, selling drugs and shit like that.
3.At the moment, how many stuff have Magrudergrind?
Magrudergrind has a lot of stuff. Many vinyl records and lots of food in the fridge.
4.How is the grindcore scene in your city? some grindcore fanzine?
Wash DC is OK, Baltimore is the grindzone! Yea, our old guitarest, Mough, who is Bolivian/Peruvian had a zine called "The chains that grind us" check that shit out!
5.What bands influence in the chaotic sound from Magrudergrind?
Only true grinding warriors of fastcore-thrash kings, GZA and Wu Tang.
6.How is Magrudergrind in scene?
Magrudergrind brings the love for graffiti/hip hop culture to TRUE punk-influenced grindcore, in the old school fashion.

Yes. I want to hear more. send me some records!
8.In peru there are enough people who listens Magrudergrind, because is very brutal and insane. How you see this.

Disrupt - Interview
Interview w/Terry Savastano (Guitar)
1.Hey Terry, how are you brother? all good?Yes i'm doing pretty good, i'm keeping busy with my current band SUPERPOWER. we just recorded 21 songs and have been playing a lot of gigs. other than that i just lost my job so i got to find some work to pay the bills!!
2.Who formed Disrupt? give me a little biography.
Jay Stiles and Pete Kamarinos(both vocals) are the founders of DISRUPT. they started the band in 1987. early band members were chris drake(guitar),mike williams(drums/guitar),tony leone(bass). i come into the picture in late 1989. i met the guys the previous year and helped get some of the first gigs. then i roadied for them a few times and they asked me to join. it was one of the greatest moments of my life!! i was the first member of the band who was not from lynn, mass. the last line-up was me(guitar),jay+pete(vox),jeff(guitar),randy(drums) and bob (bass). we toured europe in 1993 and broke up.
3.How many stuff have Disrupt?
Well there's the unrest l.p./c.d., the split l.p. with sauna, the refuse planet 7", and like 8 or 9 other split records with bands like resist, taste of fear,warcollapse,etc.....a LOT of material out there plus a few bootlegs too!! i would recommend the "THE REST" c.d. as it's easy to find and has a good portion of all our material on it.
4.How was the grindcore scene in your city/country in the years 80,90s? which bands had and fanzines?
In all honesty it wasn't that good where we were living. we were not accepted too well in boston. we did a lot better in new york. we played with DROPDEAD and DEFORMED CONSCIENCE alot back then and of course all the new york crusty crowd. i don't remember too many fanzines by name but there were some good ones back then. still are.
5.What bands influenced in the brutal sound from Disrupt?
DISCHARGE obviously, NO SECURITY,CONFLICT,CRUCIFIX,MOB 47,CRUDE SS,CONFUSE......bands like that. so many people claim we were an EXTREME NOISE TERROR copy but we were so much more intense and honest.....that's my humble opinion.
6.The lyrics from Disrupt talk about?
Animal liberation, domestic violence,anti-establishment,big business bullshit, thinking and acting for yourself, just all the stuff that needs to be adressed then and now.
7.What do you think about bullfighting? in my opinion is pure shit!
I am an animal lover and i think it's pretty fuckin' crazy that it still goes on. i LOVE to see people get mauled by bulls!!! actually i love watching people get wrecked by any animal. they were here a lot longer than we were and when we are gone they will all still be here (hopefully).
8.What grindcore bands are you favorite?
I am on a japcore kick right now!! i'm listening to a lot of GAUZE,SYSTEMATIC DEATH,CONFUSE, etc..... i also like a lot of stuff like PHOBIA,INSECT WARFARE,bands like that. i don't have a favorite grindcore band, i hear a lot of good stuff latley and i'm glad there's people into it.
9.Now you play in other band? what genere? rock n roll?
SUPERPOWER is very much a crossover band. we have a lot of metal riffs but our songs are short and the vocals kind of screamy. i'd say it's a punk/h.c./rock-n-roll/metal cross. we try to combine all the stuff we listen to. i think DISRUPT fans will like it because it is more similar than some of my previous work with GRIEF.
10.Good brother, thanks for your time, your last words for the readers from
NO TE CALLES ZINE.
THANK YOU very, very much for the interview!! i haven't done one i a while and it is great to think about the old times!! please check out my current band SUPERPOWER on myspace and also please visit the DISRUPT page as peter has added a lot of cool photos!! i've also got some stuff on my page as well. thank you for taking the time out to read this!!Contact: www.myspace.com/officialdisrupt
Antitrust - Entrevista
