Interview - Effluvia

1.Cadaveric greetings from Perú,Rich! How going the putrid things at Effluvia?
Things are great. We are getting ready to prep a few releases that are going to be released November 16. There’s just so much going on for us lately and all of it’s been very positive.

2.Hows been the bestiality begings at Effluvia?
It’s been a “grind”, pun intended. We are from Lakewood , Washington in the states. Both me & Garth(Effluvia Guitarist) we’re in a previous death grind band called Defecated Corpse way back in late 1989. After that band split up, Garth started Effluvia in 1992 as a solo one-man-band project. After many drummers and bassists galore came and went, Wayne started jamming with Garth and this 2 man band project was steady for quite a few years while still auditioning different drummers. 8 years later, Garth had a chance encounter with Rich(me), the old Defecated Corpse drummer and the rest is history. It wasn’t until 2002 until Effluvia actually hit the stage for the first time and it was a difficult time in Seattle for any metal band at that. Emo was a big genre and a lot of extreme music was pushed aside and rarely even given a notice during this time. Fast forward to 2016, with many hiatuses, Effluvia came back with a roar and has played and recorded non-stop ever since.

3.Aberrant discography of Effluvia?
The first official demo would be 1993’s World Termination with Garth doing all of the instruments and vocals. Fast Forward to 2003 and another demo with Rich on the drums was Ponders Corner. 2004 we hit an actual studio and recorded Cadaverous Compost. The self-titled EFFLUVIA album was originally recorded back in 2005 but we started the first of a few hiatuses and it was buried and officially released in 2017. In 2018 we released Laboratory Casualties.

4.Deadly influences at Effluvia?
Pretty much the big ones in grind… Napalm Death, Terrorizer, Assuck, etc. There is literally too many bands to name but all of us like many different genres other than grind. From classic rock to alternative there really is no limit for inspiration for us.

5.Some members of Effluvia have another proyect paralell?
OF course, what restless musician doesn’t. Wayne just released “Diarrhea Of A Madman”; a joke death grind project. Garth & Wayne have Mangled Overture; a black atmospheric metal inspired project. Garth has a solo instrumental metal album simply called Garth. Rich has quite a few projects: Hydraulic Death, P.I.Z.Z., Broken Throat, Aeolotrope, Slaughtering Rage, Vladhalla, Verona Asthma, Blistered Zygote just name a few. There’s also a sort of Effluvia lite called Bludgeoning Pipe with Rich doing drums and guitars and Wayne bass and Vox and Garth backing guitars and solos. We have so much more projects in the works. Washington has a drought of drummers so Rich(me) always is being asked to be a part of some project.

6.Rich explain some more about actual pestilent death metal scene from your city and recommend some bands.
We are seeing a resurgence of thrash and old school death metal. There’s a lot of great bands from here but some notable ones would be Oxygen Destroyer, Fetid, Kommand, Toxic Reign, Cerebral Rot, Hacksaw, Dilapidation… There’s just so much good stuff coming out the Northwest in the last few years.

7.Effluvia knows infernal death metal scene of Southamerica?
Facebook makes this big world so accessible to us and that’s what we are thankful of. With that being said. Just like up here in the northwest there’s so much great stuff coming out of brazil such as Podridao. I’ve heard a few Venezuelan bands such as Wrathful. It’s just such a great time for independent music distribution in general and if someone says there’s no good bands anymore then they just are not looking in deep corners of the world.

8.Stuff avaliable of Effluvia at the moment? where death metal maniacs can find the stuff?
All of our releases are physically and digitally available through our bandcamp page: https://effluviatacoma.bandcamp.com/
Or you can e-mail us at effluviatacoma@gmail.com to see if we have some rare stuff or sold out stock or to just ask us anything.

9.Gruesome future plans at Effluvia?
Like I wrote before, we are releasing “Return To Ponders Corner” on November 16th. We also have a rare limited-edition release that can be picked locally only called “Thea’s Wrath”. Plus, Broken Throat and Bludgeoning Pipe are having new releases coming out November 16th also. We are also doing a ton of splits coming up next year and another Full length should come out late 2020.

10.Last words Rich and thanks for your time in this interview! Regards!
Thank you to everyone that has ever supported us. I know we are not for everyone but even the ones that think we suck have eventually given us the respect we’ve slaved for. Keep looking for great bands and albums and cheers. -Rich

Interview - Grim Fate

1.Infernal and infamous greetings from Perú,Wim! How going the things at Grim Fate?
Hi! Everythings perfect in the Grim Fate camp. We are currently recording our new album. We only need to record vocals and have it mixed and mastered. Six slow an brutal songs are coming your way in 2020.

2.Hows been the bestiality begings at Grim Fate?
When my other band Burial Remains wasn’t so busy, I was bored and asked Pier to start a band together focusing on slow doomy death metal, since we’re both big fans of the finish scene, as well as bands like Incantation, Disma and Asphyx. In a matter of only six weeks we wrote and recorded four songs and that was the beginning of Grim Fate. After this recordings Philippus joined the band on guitar and bass.

3.Deadly discography of Grim Fate?
We have an mcd ‘Emerging From The Crypt’ out on Chaos Records from Mexico and Dawnbreed Records from The Netherlands did the tape version. And we have a split 7” out woth Putrevore on Dawnbreeds/Seed Of Doom Records.

4.Influences of devastation at Grim Fate?
We are influence by many bands, first of all by fellow Dutch bands Asphyx and Beyond Belief, but also by US bands like Incantation, Disma, Winter, Rottrevore, etc. And we are big fans of the Finnish scene with bands like Abhorrence, Demigod, Rippikoulu, Old Sentenced, etc.

5.Some members of Grim Fate have another proyect paralell?
Philippus and I are also doing Burial Remains, een old school death metal band. Besides that Philippus has tons of projects going on usually.

6.Wim explain some more about actual death metal scene from your city and recommend some bands.
In our area not much is going on, but besides Grim Fate and Burial Remains we have some great bands like Incinerator, My Minds Mine an Stoma and there is this great doom band called Tarre, check them out!

7.Grim Fate knows death metal scene of Southamerica?
For sure we known some of the scene! Bands like Sarcofago en Sepultura are legends, but also newer bands like Unaussprechlichen Kulten are known by us amongst others! We love the attitude of the South American bands.

8.Stuff avaliable of Grim Fate at the moment? where death metal maniacs can find the stuff?
I guess Chaos Records should have some cds available and for sure pick up our split 7” with Putrevore through either Seed Of Doom or Dawnbreed. Our song ‘Untimely Demise’ is our best one so far and the new stuff will be more in this vein.

´

9.Gruesome future plans at Grim Fate?
We are planning to release our first full length cd ‘Perished In Torment’ early 2020 on Xtreem Records. Besides that we will drop a new coversong here and there and we have some new songs written to use on some split 7”es. We love that format and are allways looking for bands and labels to release them.

10.Last words Wim and thanks for your time in this interview! Regards!
Thank you for the interview and keep an eye open for our upcoming full length and in the meantime check out the split 7”. Death and decay all the way!

Interview - Ringworm

1.Deadly and bloody greetings from Perú,Matt! How going the things at Ringworm?
Things have been great lately for us! We just released our 8th studio album in May. It’s called “Death Becomes My Voice” and we’re really happy with how it turned out. We also just put out a split 7” with CHILD BITE.
We just got done with a few weeks on the road with GOATWHORE and that went really well. We go out again in a few weeks with HAVOK on the US west coast.  Looking forward to those dates.
Also our old bassist and one of our closest friends, Mike Lare has recently returned to the band but he’s playing guitar instead of the bass this time around.  It’s been great to have him back on the road with us again.

2.Hows been the bestiality begings at Ringworm?
Ringworm started out around 1990 I believe. They released the demo in 91 and the first album  “ The Promise” in 93. They broke up in the mid 90’s and reformed in 98. I joined the band when they were working on the second LP “Birth is Pain” and have been with them ever since.

3.Chaotic discography of Ringworm?

I just copied this from Wikipedia and added in a few 7” EP’s that they were missing. It’s pretty accurate I think.
1991 - Ringworm (self-released demo), later released by Overkill Records
1993 - The Promise (Incision Records), later reissued on CD by Deathwish Inc and vinyl by A389 Recordings
1994 - Split 7" with Boiling Point (Lost and Found Records)
1995 - Flatline (demo from 1991 which became bonus tracks on subsequent re-release of The Promise) (Lost and Found Records)
1999 - Madness of War (self-released demo)
2000 - Hollow Soul (Split with Godbelow) (Surface Records)
2001 - Split 7" with Cold as Life (Stillborn Records)
2001 - Birth is Pain (Victory Records)
2003 - Splitseveninch (Split with Terror) (Deathwish Inc.)
2005 - Justice Replaced by Revenge (Victory Records)
2007 - The Venomous Grand Design (Victory Records)
2011 - Scars (Victory Records)
2011 - Your Soul Belongs to Us... (Split with Mindsnare) (A389 Recordings)
2012 - Stigmatas in the Flesh (live album) (A389 Recordings)
2013 - Bleed (EP) (Relapse Records)
2014 - Hammer of the Witch (Relapse Records)[3]
2016 - Snake Church (Relapse Records)
2016-Split 7” with Brain Tentacles (A389 Records)
2016-Split 7” with Early Graves (Creator Destructor Records)
2019 - Death Becomes My Voice (Relapse Records)
2019-Split 7” with Child Bite (Failure Records)

4.Influences of devastation at Ringworm?
We’re influenced by a lot of old hardcore, punk and metal bands. Motorhead, Discharge, The Accused, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Voivod, Kiss,  Metallica, Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Entombed,Trouble, Crumbsuckers, Ludichrist, Dead Boys, Autopsy, Black Sabbath, Samhain/Misfits...too many to list.

5.Some members of Ringworm have another proyect paralell?
Our bassist, Ed and I have a death metal band called SHED THE SKIN. Kyle Severn from INCANTATION and Ash Thomas from FaithXtractor are also in the band. We are finishing up our 3rd LP titled “The Forbidden Arts” for Hells Headbangers Records. It should be out in the next 6 months hopefully.  You can check out our last album, “We of Scorn” in the meantime. Fans of late 80’s, early 90’s death metal will like it.
Ed is also in a band with RINGWORM’s singer Human Furnace (James Bulloch) called THE GLUTTONS which is a Motorhead styled rock and roll/punk type of band that kicks ass. They released an album last year called “G.F.F.G.” that you should check out.

6.Matt explain some more about actual loud and noisy scene from your city and recommend some bands.
Cleveland has had many great metal, hardcore and punk bands over the last few decades.
If you haven’t heard TERROR (Cleveland death/thrash band not to be confused with the popular hardcore band from L.A.) you should check them out. Classic stuff from the late 80’s. Fans of old school death metal and thrash will love this band. Highly influential
to our entire extreme music scene here in Cleveland.  Some members have a crushing new death metal band called VADIAT that is amazing.
THE GUNS were a killer punk band from the 80’s that you should get to know.  We recently covered their song “I’m Not Right” on our new 7” split with CHILD BITE.
DESTRUCTOR dates back to the mid 80’s and is a great old school thrash band that’s still making music today.
BOULDER was a really great metal band that broke up and members went on to form the great band MIDNIGHT which I’m sure most people reading this are familiar with.
EMBALMER and KURNUGIA are both great death metal bands that are still releasing great stuff today.
BLOOD OF CHRIST was a great death metal band from the early 90’s and so was DECREPIT.  Classic Cleveland death metal that people should know about but a lot don’t. I played in both of these bands back in the day along side our good friend Tom Rojack who unfortunately died in 1997.
KEELHAUL was a great sort of proggy but very heavy band that was amazing. It’s hard to categorize this band but members went on to form great bands like AXIOMA, BRAIN TENTACLES and SIXKILLSNINE.  Each of these bands are different from the others but all of them are great and interesting sounding bands.
SOULLESS was a great death/thrash band that put out some very ripping records before they split up a few years ago. Fans of super fast and tight thrash will love this band.
One of the all time great punk bands...THE DEAD BOYS was originally from Cleveland before they moved to NYC. They’re one of my favorite bands ever.
Our good friend...the late Jim Konya put out many, many great releases over the years with bands like NUNSLAUGHTER, FROM THE DEPTHS, MINCH, SPAWN OF SATAN, NORDIC MIST, ALL THAT IS EVIL... Jim put out tons of stuff before he died a few years back. Take a few days and delve into his catalogue.

7.Ringworm knows loud and noisy scene of Southamerica?
Obviously we know Sepultura but also Sarcofago and Pentagram (Chile) are some favorites of ours.

8.Stuff avaliable of Ringworm at the moment? where noisy maniacs can find the stuff?
You can get our last few records here...
https://store.relapse.com/b/ringworm

You can also get our shirts and merch at
https://allinmerch.com/

9.Morbid future plans at Ringworm?
We have the HAVOK/RINGWORM west coast tour coming up in October and we’ll be doing some more touring next year. After that...we will be working on our ninth studio album. We have only a few riffs so far but we’ll be working on that soon.

10.Last words Matt and thanks for your time in this interview! Regards!
Thanks for getting ahold of me for this interview. I hope that some people in Peru are turned on to some of the great bands from Cleveland that I’ve listed here.  There’s always been a great scene here in Cleveland and a lot of it tends to get overlooked.  Thanks again!
